Snip Tired Container Blooms for Fresh Flowers
In late summer, container flowers often look leggy and spent, but a quick trim will encourage a fresh flush of blooms for autumn.

Identify container plants like petunias or geraniums that have faded flowers or long, leafless stems.
Cut off dead flower heads down to the nearest healthy leaf or bud.
Trim back leggy, overgrown stems by about one-third of their length using clean scissors.
Pluck away any yellow, dry, or damaged leaves from the soil surface and the base of the plant.
Why it works
Faded flowers and long stems continue to drain energy from the plant as it tries to produce seeds. Removing them redirects the plant's resources into growing new leaves and fresh flower buds before the cold weather arrives.
